Construction under way on 35-home boost for Norfolk market town

A South Norfolk market town is set to get a huge boost with work officially under way on a brand-new housing development, with 35 homes to expand the local community.

Station View, on Vince’s Road in Diss, is a collaboration between Flagship Group’s development subsidiary Flagship Homes and contractor Marfleet & Blyth, with the site also receiving grant funding from Homes England. The name, picked by the Flagship Homes sales team, was chosen for the development’s location – a short walk from Diss’ train station.

The site will be a mix of 21 affordable rent homes, which will be managed by Flagship’s housing association Victory Homes, and 14 shared ownership homes which will be sold by Flagship Homes.

All the plots will be built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), involving timber frames built in sections off-site to then be transported and assembled on-site, which reduces build time and allows for greater quality control throughout the build process.

Each home will have an air-source heat pump and an electric vehicle charging point. A selection of the homes will also have MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) systems installed as part of the planning process. All of these measures will create energy-efficient homes benefiting both the residents and the environment.

Tony Tann, managing director of Flagship Homes, said: “I’m very happy to be under way here in Diss, and I’m excited to see these high-quality homes come together to offer a community for people to live and love, and also extremely grateful for the support from Homes England. Without that, this scheme would not be possible.”

Simon Floor, Flagships project manager added: “It’s great to be working with Marfleet & Blyth once again to bring energy-efficient, future-ready homes to the local area. These homes will be of a high standard, energy efficient using MMC alongside the green energy technology additions to ultimately contribute to reduced household costs to future residents.”

Kyle Crush, construction manager for Marfleet & Blyth, said: “It’s a pleasure to continue working with Flagship. We’re really thrilled to see this Station View coming to life, and it’s something we know will have a real impact within the local neighbourhood.

“It’s all about providing homes to help the community grow and develop, so it’s something we’re more than happy to be a part of.”

The site includes a large green space to be transformed into a play area, and other open spaces will be set aside to increase biodiversity in the area.

The Vince’s Road development already has links to Flagship’s successful biodiversity initiatives; the Group recently won the Biodiversity and Nature Award at the Unlock Net Zero awards for a tree transplantation project, which moved 49 trees from this site to the nearby Flagship office at Coppice House in Bury St. Edmunds.

The scheme is set to be finished by autumn 2025. To learn more about this and other developments, visit flagship-homes.co.uk.
