The first families are set to move into new homes in Bacton, North Norfolk, as an all-affordable development nears completion.
Flagship Homes – part of Bromford Flagship LiveWest (BFL) – is getting ready to welcome residents to St Andrew’s Meadow, off Coast Road, which consists of 47 homes a stone’s throw from the beach.
The scheme has come together quickly since work began early last year. Built by Ipswich-based principal contractor Aspen Build using Modern Methods of Construction, the timber-framed homes were manufactured off-site and assembled at Bacton. They are fitted with air source heat pumps and solar panels, designed to keep running costs down for the people moving in.
Tony Tann, Managing Director of Flagship Homes, said: “It feels like no time at all since we broke ground here, and now we’re days away from handing the keys to the first families. That’s a moment worth pausing on. Affordable home ownership is genuinely hard to come by along this stretch of coast, which is why bringing 19 shared ownership homes to Bacton, alongside 28 for affordable rent, matters so much.
“We’ve been busy across rural north Norfolk over the last couple of years, building new homes in Warham, Sheringham and Walcott. These are the places where affordable housing has made a big difference, and St Andrew’s Meadow is a brilliant addition to that picture.”
The 28 affordable rent homes will be allocated to families on the local housing register and let up to 80% of market rate. They will be managed by Victory Homes, which sits alongside Flagship Homes as part of Bromford Flagship LiveWest. The 19 shared ownership homes are a mix of two-bed bungalows, two-bed houses and three-bed houses.
Alongside the homes, a 0.6-hectare parcel of land to the south of the village hall is being gifted to the parish council for use as a village open space and car park. The site is within walking distance of the beach, a primary school, shops, cafés and restaurants, with bus connections to Mundesley, North Walsham and beyond.
The development was part-funded by Homes England and delivered in partnership with North Norfolk District Council.
Who can buy a shared ownership home?
Shared ownership could work for you if these three points apply:
- It will be your main home, not a second property or investment
- You’ve got some money coming in, whether that’s savings, equity from another property, or regular earnings, but buying outright on the open market is still out of reach
- Your household income is £80,000 or less per year
