Flagship Homes, alongside contracted partner, Wellington Construction Ltd, have started work on a significant new development in Great Yarmouth, supported by Homes England funding of £1,629,000. The development will provide 30 all-affordable homes for the community, through housing association Newtide Homes, playing a vital role in increasing affordable housing stock in the area.
From Flagship Homes, Anna Cook-Bacon, Head of Partnerships, Kirsty Gill, S106 New Business Assistant, and Oleg Barsoukov, Senior Project Manager (Delivery) were all present to break ground at the development site, with Julia Thurston, Housing Officer for Newtide Homes completing the Flagship Group attendees. Paul Pitcher, Managing Director of Wellington Construction Ltd was also on site to celebrate the milestone.
The project team have worked carefully to ensure that the correct measures are in place to protect wildlife in the area, with an ecologist regularly visiting the development site to ensure that animals and their habitats remain safe during the construction process. Flagship Homes and Wellington Construction Ltd are firmly committed to staying ecologically conscious throughout the project, having also employed a specialist consultant to safely rehome bats, currently present in the area. Environmental protections will continue to be put in place throughout the project, with the completed homes being provided with birdhouses.
Upon completion, the development will hold 1-bed apartments and a range of 2-bed, 3-bed, and 4-bed houses. The first phase of homes will be completed in November 2024, with the second phase to follow closely in January 2025.
Speaking from the development site, Anna Cook-Bacon said: “Flagship Homes is delighted to have started work on another vitally important development, with special thanks to Homes England for their support. The Great Yarmouth community needs more affordable housing and we’re pleased to provide high-quality new builds to meet this need.
The construction of 30 additional all-affordable homes will help ensure that Newtide Homes can continue to offer affordable housing to those that need it. I would personally like to thank the Flagship Homes Delivery Team and Wellington Construction for the hard work they have put into getting to this stage, and the continued work that will be required to complete this scheme.”
Paul Pitcher of Wellington Construction Ltd added: “We are delighted to have broken ground and to be working once again with Flagship Homes to deliver much needed affordable housing.
As a locally based firm, we take great pride in building top quality affordable homes in the area, and have done so on many sites across Norfolk and Suffolk. Not only is this development providing much needed homes for the community, but it is also creating employment for local people as well.”
